Rumi was a thirteenth century Persian poet and mystic. He was born in what is now present day Afghanistan when it was very much a centre of Persian culture. Inspired about the great writers of his time such as Attar and Sanai, he went on to produce a body of writing that has influenced minds and literature from all over the world. His work truly does transcendent national and political borders because it ultimately is so good at speaking for the universal human condition. See below for our favourite quotes from this master poet.

and rightdoing there is a field.
I’ll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass
the world is too full to talk about.”

– Rumi

My Soul

Silence

“Silence is the language of god, all else is poor translation.”

Your Light

“In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no-one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.”
– Rumi

Let Yourself Be Drawn

“Let yourself be drawn by the stronger pull of that which you truly love.”
– Rumi
